Dean whimpered, his head pressing against Castiel's chest. He could hear the steady thmp-thump of his angel's borrowed heart. The thought caused him to burrow deeper into Cas' side. He was in love with an angel... an angel possessing a man's body. And Dean knew that sooner or later Castiel would leave this body and him- he had to, he was an angel.
Silent tears slid slowly down Dean's warm rounded face and he prayed. He prayed to a god he didn't believe was listening that, if somehow they stopped Armageddon and survived doing it, he and Castiel would find a way to be together. The idea of losing Cas to the ether, of knowing he was there but unable to be with him, was more painful for Dean to imagine than the prospect of the angel's death.

Castiel held Dean close as the hunter's prayer broadcast loudly through the celestial air. "I'm not leaving, Dean," Cas assured, allowing the heavy downy cover of his wings to drape over Dean's body, wrapping the hazel-eyed human in intense love.
"He was dying. He prayed for a chance to make his life mean something in the weeks he had left."

"But you can fix him," Dean whispered. "You fixed everything Bobby and I threw at you that first night, so I know you can do it."

"I can and I did," Castiel admitted. "But his spirit was ready."

Dean raised his head to question his lover.

With a sad half-smile, "I felt him leave several weeks ago." He pulled Dean up for a chaste kiss; arms and wings tightening possessively around the man he loved, "Your prayer has already been answered- as was mine."
