It was raining hard in Tampa, and Sam was gone. Again. Cataclysmic weather had always stirred something deep within him, such mighty proof of his Father's existence. He'd soared through the leaden clouds, power burning through the air, the violent, driving moisture like wine on his tongue. He didn't need to be here, but he had come. He had stood for what felt like hours as his host's clothing had dampened and hung heavily on him, fingering Dean's skull bracelet that he wore on his right wrist, hidden under his shirt cuff. He'd stolen it, and felt no shame at the thievery; certain objects held a little of their owner's spirit, and the temptation of having a part of Dean close to him had been impossible to resist. Now Dean, fully dressed, stood in the narrow doorway, watching him, a weapon dangling in his hand as if he'd forgotten he was holding it. He laid it aside on an unseen surface, his eyes as dark and unreadable as the bloodstones he wore...from this distance. *Come to me,* Castiel prayed. Dean stepped off the cabin's tiny porch and slowly crossed the sodden field of stubby grass, his eyes never leaving Castiel's face. He stopped a short distance away, his gaze hungry. Wounded. Wary. Castiel understood why: Dean had cracked his heart open and let him look inside. Now it was up to him to heal the gap. Castiel trembled. He knew Dean Winchester bore a terrible emptiness that he tried to fill with physical pleasures. He needed to learn his true worth, that he had so much within him to give. His soul could fill to overflowing, and never run dry again. But Castiel had never suspected that Dean Winchester would awaken a similar need in him, or be the only one to have the power to ease it. This muddy ground was just another battlefield, and they were two soldiers. He moved forward and embraced Dean, somehow amazed that in this torrent, his warrior was warm. He caught Dean's head between his hands, gazed into his eyes and rasped, "Yes." Their first kiss was his fall. | |
